Recent headlines have suggested that dental practice values are under pressure, with NASDAL’s latest goodwill survey painting a gloomy picture for practice owners. But in a new opinion piece published in GDPUK, our director Henry Strevens argues that the reality is considerably more positive.
Drawing on FTA’s own valuation register, which reflects practices being actively valued, marketed and sold, Henry shows that goodwill values are consistently sitting well above the NASDAL figures. For February to April 2026, FTA’s valuations put goodwill at 136.4% of gross fees, compared with NASDAL’s 109%, and while the NASDAL figure fell year-on-year, FTA’s rose. Nor is this down to a few exceptional practices: around three quarters of FTA’s valuations sit above NASDAL’s overall average.
Buyers are certainly more discerning and are scrutinising profitability more closely, but Henry is clear that this is not the same as a market in decline. Valuation activity is up, profit multiples have held steady, and well-run practices with strong fundamentals continue to command strong values.
