We recently teamed up with The Principals Club to host a charity padel tournament at Rocket Padel in Beckton, bringing dental practice owners together for an afternoon on court and raising £1,737 for Wells on Wheels in the process.
Wells on Wheels works to break the cycle of poverty through a deceptively simple piece of kit: a water wheel that lets families roll water home rather than carry it. The hours it saves are hours that young girls can spend in school instead of at the well.
Twenty-four practice owners, playing in pairs, entered the tournament, and every penny of the entry fees went straight to the charity. We were delighted to present a cheque to Wells on Wheels on the day.
The tournament wouldn’t have happened without four generous sponsors from across the dental industry — Avant Garde Dentistry, EMS, Digimax and Dental Update. Their support covered the full cost of the day: branded padel shirts for every player, new balls, trophies for the winning pair, and food for everyone afterwards.
Andy Acton, said: “The inspiration for this event was to bring the dental community together outside of the surgery, to have fun and make some money for charity. What we didn’t anticipate was the level of competitiveness of the players, which added some extra spice for what was an incredible day!”
Days like this one are a reminder of what sits behind the work we do: community, connection, and supporting the people behind the profession. Our thanks go to everyone who played, sponsored and donated.
